Legal Services Commission of South Australia

The Legal Services Commission of South Australia (LSC) helps people with legal problems. It is not attached to the government.

Legal advice and information

Anyone with a legal problem can:

  • phone LSC’s free Legal Help Line (details below)
  • get free legal advice at an LSC office
  • use the duty lawyer service at the family law courts
  • get copies of LSC’s free publications about legal matters
  • come to free family law information seminars
  • visit the LSC website (link below) for information about family law, LSC’s services and copies of publications.

Legal assistance and representation

If you need a lawyer to do work for you, such as negotiations, preparing legal documents or going to court, you need to apply for a ‘grant of legal assistance’. This means that LSC will pay one of its own lawyers or a private lawyer to do the work for your case.

See ‘Legal assistance & representation – frequently asked questions’ (link below).
