Bushfire legal help insurance roadshows

Bushfire legal help partner organisations, along with key insurance industry organisations, are running a series of insurance 'roadshow' sessions and legal advice clinics for people who have been affected by the recent bushfires. Session details are available below.

Insurance roadshow sessions

Free legal information sessions on insurance financial and credit issues will be held:

  • 1 pm to 3 pm, Thursday 5 March at Kinglake Recovery Centre, Murrindindi Shire Offices, Main St, Kinglake
  • 4 pm to 6 pm, Thursday 5 March at Whittlesea Recovery Centre, Community Activity Centre,56-61 Laurel St, Whittlesea.

Lawyers from Bushfire Legal Help partner organisations, Insurance Ombudsman, Insurance Council of Australia will provide information, take questions and provide assistance to anyone with a problem:

  • dealing with your insurance company
  • your insurance policy – definitions, signing a release
  • the amount insured under your policy
  • the amount received under your policy
  • reviewing your insurance payout – a four week deadline applies
  • underinsurance – what it means
  • the Insurance Ombudsman – how it works
  • the Insurance Code of Practice
  • information on claims
  • information on complaints
  • disaster claims review rights
  • mortgage stress – personal and financial hardship
  • mortgage payments on destroyed property
  • replacement loans and rebuilding.

Legal advice clinic schedule

Sessions will be held between 11 am and 4 pm on:
