Bushfire Legal Help – free information and advice sessions

Bushfire legal help partner organisations, along with key insurance industry organisations, are running a series of free legal 'roadshow' information sessions on insurance, credit and general legal issues and legal advice clinics for people who have been affected by the recent bushfires. Session details are available below.

Insurance roadshow session

Free legal information sessions on insurance financial and credit issues will be held:

• 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm, Thursday 26 March 2009 at Flowerdale Primary School, Whittlesea-Yea Road, Flowerdale.

Lawyers from Bushfire Legal Help partner organisations, Insurance Ombudsman, Insurance Council of Australia will provide information, take questions and provide assistance to anyone with a problem:

• dealing with your insurance company
• your insurance policy – definitions, signing a release
• the amount insured under your policy
• the amount received under your policy
• how to have your insurance payout reviewed 
• underinsurance – what it means
• the Insurance Ombudsman – how it works
• information on complaints
• disaster claims review rights
• mortgage stress – personal and financial hardship
• mortgage payments on destroyed property
• replacement loans and rebuilding
• fencing issues
• housing and tenancy issues
• applying for your superannuation
• your property – repairs, rebuilding and selling, removing debris and demolition ('clean up')
• replacing your identification and other documents
• other issues

Legal advice clinic schedule

Representatives from Bushfire legal help's partner organisations will also be providing legal information and advice to people who have been affected by bushfires, at the locations below.

Alexandra

Sessions will be held between 11 am and 4 pm on:
