SGP Navigator is for all section 29A panel practitioners who use the simplified grants process (SGP). As it contains important information about guidelines, fees and panel membership, all section 29A panel members must read each edition.
In assessing whether a matter meets the summary crime guidelines, practitioners are required to objectively assess the likely penalty given the circumstances of the case and the general sentencing practice for that offence.
Practitioners who are unsure whether a matter satisfies the relevant guideline should contact the Compliance team for a Compliance Ruling. Contact details are below.
See the VLA Hanbook for lawyers for more on the Criminal law guidelines for grants of legal assistance.
If you have any questions about compliance issues, please email compliance@vla.vic.gov.au or phone our Compliance team on (03) 9269 0600 (then select 3 from the menu) or phone 1800 677 402 (toll free for Victorian country callers only).
Make sure you don’t miss out on important compliance information by subscribing to Legal Aid Brief. While Legal Aid Brief is automatically sent to your firm’s designated contact, all section 29A panel practitioners are encouraged to personally subscribe to Legal Aid Brief to receive it directly in their inbox.
