Indigenous winter clerkships

In 2012 VLA will offer a number of winter clerkship positions to law students with an Indigenous background. The program will be offered over June and July, during the university winter breaks.

Our clerkship is unique because:

  • you are welcome to commence a clerkship at any stage of your law degree
  • you are able to return in successive years until you have finished your studies
  • placements are available in our Criminal Law Program, Family Law Program or our Civil Justice, Access & Equity Program
  • you may also participate in VLA’s community legal education and law reform activities
  • we aim to accommodate your needs, regarding location and areas of interests.

Selection criteria

As part of your application you will need to address the following selection criteria:

  • confirmation of enrolment in a law degree
  • good analytical skills combined with an understanding of legal principles and the ability to apply them to specific facts
  • well developed interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • an interest in developing a career in the legal aid or community sector.

Your application should include:

  • a statement addressing the selection criteria
  • a resume including details of two referees
  • a copy of your academic transcript.
