Changes to the ATLAS criminal law templates from 1 August 2016

Thursday, 28 July 2016

As of 1 August 2016 Criminal Law templates in ATLAS have been simplified so that Victoria Legal Aid can accurately report on grants of aid provided to youth and adult clients. The names of the templates have changed and the grants of aid have been regrouped under 10 templates. All current grants of aid will still be available under the new templates. The fees applicable to all grants have not been impacted by these changes.

Differentiating between youth summary grants and youth indictable grants

The main change in applying for legal assistance affects practitioners who conduct Children’s Court criminal matters. Currently legal assistance for Children’s Court criminal matters is applied for under the ‘Simplified Process – Summary Crime’ template.

The new templates will differentiate between youth summary grants and youth indictable grants. If legal assistance is required for a Children’s Court summary matter or a Schedule 2 CPA offence the ‘Youth – Summary’ template should be used. If legal assistance is required for a Children’s Court indictable matter (not a Schedule 2 CPA offence) the ‘Youth – Indictable’ template should be used.
