Charging clients for part of a psychologist/psychiatrist report

Thursday, 9 March 2017

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) has standard fees payable for psychologist/psychiatrist reports. Some clients have recently brought to our attention that they have been requested to pay for part of a report where the practitioner is charging more than the VLA fee.

We recommend that you agree the VLA rate with your expert providing the report before you commence and always have the grant of aid approved before engaging the expert.

The Legal Aid Act 1978 requires that clients not be charged where a grant of legal assistance is in place for that work. Get in touch with the Assignments team for help with this area.
