Legal assistance funding maintained for Casey Cardinia community

Legal assistance funding maintained for Casey Cardinia community

Wednesday, 6 March 2019

Victoria Legal Aid is committed to ensuring long-term funding continues to be provided to the Casey Cardinia community to support the work of community legal centres in providing vital services to those in need.

We can confirm that Springvale Monash Legal Service (SMLS) and Peninsula Community Legal Centre (PCLC) will receive reallocated funding, following our decision to discontinue our service and funding arrangements with Casey Cardinia Community Legal Service (CCCLS).

This decision has been made after independent reviews, careful deliberation and extensive consultations with CCCLS.

The decision to reallocate funds to SMLS and PCLC was made in consultation with the South Eastern Regional Legal Assistance Network about how best to redistribute the funding within the region.

‘This decision maintains the current funding level to the region and will improve access to legal services in the region and ensure the best services are available to the community,’ Victoria Legal Aid CEO Louise Glanville said.

‘Both SMLS and PCLC have a long history of operating in the region, and with the additional funding both centres will expand services and outreach in Casey and Cardinia.’

All local community members who qualify for free legal services will be able to access them through community legal centres in the region.

We also continue to provide legal services locally through our Dandenong and Frankston offices and our state-wide Legal Help telephone service.
