New video on guideline changes

To help you navigate the new-look family law guidelines introduced in July, we’ve produced a new video resource which will walk you through the changes to the guidelines, ATLAS and the Notes to the guidelines.

The Ready reckoner (docx, 140.55 KB) will also give you an overview of Commonwealth family law guideline changes

We've also developed a suite of practice tools in consultation with an advisory group of family lawyers. Now we’d like your opinion.

Practice tools – tell us what you think

We’ve piloted the tools and made some changes to make them more relevant and user-friendly. Have a look at the latest drafts and let us know your thoughts. Give us feedback in a way that is easy for you. Make your suggestions in an email, make notes on a hardcopy, or phone Catherine Caruana, Project Manager on (03) 9269 0371 to share your thoughts. Feedback is required by Wednesday 6 September.

Who needs tools?

We all want to do our best in practice, regardless of our level of experience or expertise. Checklists have been found to help busy, highly trained professionals manage complex processes in a range of contexts.

We acknowledge that the work our practice partners do with vulnerable clients is especially challenging. We want to support lawyers who sign up to do legal aid work with access to resources that help them in their practice.

It won’t be a condition of a grant of aid that panel lawyers use the tools. However, we hope that you’ll see the benefit of promoting the use of these tools in your office, particularly amongst lawyers who are new to family law.

Masterclass with barrister Belle Lane
