Review of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal – call for submissions

Date : 03 Apr 2009

The president of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), Justice Kevin Bell, is carrying out an extensive review of the tribunal. The purpose of the review is to ensure that VCAT remains accessible to all Victorians and that it continues to improve its capacity to resolve disputes effectively and fairly.

The views, suggestions and input from VCAT's users, interested organisations and the Victorian community are an important part of the review. To provide interested parties with the opportunity to provide feedback and information, the review consultation process includes:

  • holding a number of metropolitan events
  • a tour of regional Victoria (schedule below)
  • meeting with key users and community groups to hear their views and ideason the service VCAT provides.
  • inviting professional bodies and members of the public to make a submission
  • hosting an online discussion about key themes of the review, such as support to self-represented litigants and the use of alternative dispute resolution at VCAT.

Submissions

The community is invited to make submissions to the review about:

  • your experience of VCAT
  • accessing VCAT
  • ideas for improving VCAT's performance.
