New bushfire information sessions announced for Kinglake & Marysville

Free legal information sessions about insurance financial and credit issues resulting from Victoria's 2009 bushfires will be held at:

  • Kinglake Community Centre, corner Extons and Kinglake/Whittlesea roads, Kinglake Central
    7.15 pm to 9.15 pm, Wednesday 20 May 2009 (following community meeting)
  • Marysville Golf and Bowls Club, 956 Buxton-Marysville Road
    6.30 pm to 8.30 pm, Wednesday 27 May 2009.

Lawyers from Bushfire Legal Help partner organisations, Insurance Ombudsman, Insurance Council of Australia will provide information, take questions and provide assistance to anyone with a problem about:

  • dealing with your insurance company
  • your insurance policy – definitions, signing a release
  • the amount insured under your policy
  • the amount received under your policy
  • how to have your insurance payout reviewed 
  • underinsurance – what it means
  • the Insurance Ombudsman – how it works
  • information on complaints
  • disaster claims review rights
  • mortgage stress – personal and financial hardship
  • mortgage payments on destroyed property
  • replacement loans and rebuilding
  • fencing issues
  • housing and tenancy issues
  • applying for your superannuation
  • your property – repairs, rebuilding and selling, removing debris and demolition ('clean up')
  • replacing your identification and other documents
  • other issues.
