Interpreter and translator policy

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) regularly provides legal aid services to clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds and to people who have disabilities affecting their ability to communicate.

The Interpreter and Translator Policy applies to the use of interpreters and translators when working with people who are unable to communicate effectively in English.

It also sets out when VLA must, or may, arrange a professional accredited interpreter or translator, and outlines how to secure an interpreter.
