Acknowledging Sorry Day 2019

Acknowledging Sorry Day 2019

Friday, 24 May 2019

We acknowledge and recognise those affected by the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families.

Today we stop, reflect, and acknowledge the wrongs of the past and say sorry. We reflect on our history and the need for healing.

Sorry Day marks the anniversary of the 1997 tabling of the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from their Families, Bringing them Home.

We believe reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and we are committed to making this everyday business for our organisation.

We are currently developing our second Reconciliation Action Plan and continue our commitment to addressing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the justice system, providing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients with services that are culturally safe and responsive, closing the gap, and supporting self-determination in Victoria.
