New Lawyers Program 2014First and second year lawyers with an interest in social justice can apply to be part of our New Lawyers Program. Applications open on Friday 21 March.

As part of the two year program, new lawyers have the opportunity to:

  • learn from expert lawyers across Victoria Legal Aid’s criminal, civil and family programs
  • interact with a diverse range of clients on a daily basis
  • receive hands-on experience through rotating metropolitan and regional placements
  • carry out appearance work in courts and tribunals
  • promote social justice and protect human rights.

New Lawyer Briana Proud is a strong advocate of the program.

‘It will be the best experience of your life, but be prepared to be challenged.

‘Some days are harder than others, but the amount you learn and the skills you gain are beyond amazing.

‘There is no other program available to young practitioners if you want a career as a practising lawyer in the area of social justice.’

Up to 12 positions are available including two positions for applicants from an Australian Indigenous background.

Applications close at midnight on Wednesday 16 April. For more information on how to apply see New Lawyers Program or contact the New Lawyers Program Resourcing Coordinator at newlawyers@vla.vic.gov.au or (03) 9269 0193.
