Our Shepparton office recently attended the Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE orientation week which provided the ideal opportunity to connect with students, lecturers, student counsellors, council, local youth services and Indigenous service organsiations.

Aboriginal Community Engagement Officer Kye Hardie, Family Violence Information Referral Officer Alison Bennett, Legal Assistant Carly Varapodio and Lawyer Patrick Rose provided referrals and fielded a variety of questions during the day at our stall, which distributed a range of legal information.

Managing Lawyer Erica Molyneaux said the week provided a great opportunity to increase awareness of our services and connect early with people who may need our assistance.

‘As an organisation, our focus is on early intervention to prevent legal problems from arising or escalating, and orientation days such as these are a great avenue to meet our potential clients and advise them on how to avoid possible legal issues.

‘By providing legal information we help build knowledge in the community about legal rights and responsibilities and increase legal literacy,’ said Erica.

We distributed information on a diverse range of topics including sex and consent, police powers, parking infringements and Centrelink.

Participating in events like student orientation weeks is consistent with our commitment to community legal education and our Client-first strategy, which puts clients at the centre of all our work, and commits us to reaching the diverse range of people who utilise our services.
