ICL's first quality audit delivers excellent outcome

Monday, 2 September 2019

During 2019 we conducted our first Independent Children’s Lawyer (ICL) panel practitioner quality audit. All panel members passed the audit with very good results and did not require further support to meet the practice standards.

The Quality Audit team noted a very high standard of quality service amongst practitioners across the ICL panel, particularly our regional practitioners.

Key facts of the audit included:

  • 19 practitioners were audited from the ICL panel
  • 95 practitioner files were audited
  • 37 per cent of practitioners audited practice in regional Victoria
  • 97 per cent of files audited complied with the practice standards.

More than 50 per cent of non-adherences to the practice standards related to practitioners:

  • not providing a final report and final account to Victoria Legal Aid
  • not closing the file in ATLAS within 30 days of the matter being finalised or the grant of legal assistance being terminated.

We are supporting practitioners to meet the practice standards through additional training, education and targeted resources.

Strengthening our partnership with private practitioners

We would like to thank our panel practitioner partners for working with us and providing valuable feedback during the quality audit process, and look forward to further strengthening our partnerships with private practitioners who conduct work on behalf of Victoria Legal Aid.
