Chief Counsel Julia Munster
Chief Counsel Julia Munster

Earlier this year we began a recruitment process to fill the role of chief counsel. We are pleased to announce that Julia Munster has been appointed to the position. This is an exciting appointment for us as the first woman to lead our in-house Chambers.

The role of chief counsel is a critical member of the leadership team at Victoria Legal Aid and heads up our team of specialist in-house advocates.

Prior to joining our organisation in 2010, Julia was a solicitor advocate at the Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission in Alice Springs and subsequently gained specialist accreditation in Criminal Law in 2012. Julia regularly presents academic lectures and seminars and is presently undertaking her Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne.

Our Chief Counsel supports and fosters high-quality advocacy across our Criminal Law, Civil Justice and Family and Children’s Law state-wide practice, driving the development of advocacy opportunities and skills for our lawyers. In this position, Julia will also play a critical leadership role in organisational, policy and law reform issues.
