Legal help available statewide for Centrelink issues

Legal help available statewide for Centrelink issues

Monday, 6 June 2016

A Victoria Legal Aid lawyer will be available at various locations across Victoria in the coming months to provide free legal help to eligible people with Centrelink legal problems.

Lawyers are available via appointment in locations across Melbourne and Victoria. This is a great opportunity for people who want help understanding their legal rights to talk face-to-face with a lawyer who is experienced with Centrelink problems.

The service is free, confidential and independent.

What we can help you with

We can give free legal advice to eligible people who disagree with a Centrelink decision or want to understand their options. This includes:

  • if Centrelink informs you there has been an overpayment
  • if your claim for a payment is refused
  • Centrelink payments being stopped or reduced
  • appealing a Centrelink decision
  • being notified of a Centrelink investigation
  • being placed on an income management program.

Victoria Legal Aid assists in many Centrelink cases throughout Victoria helping people who are unaware or unclear about their legal rights, and need support to get a decision reviewed.

Our work is about ensuring that people who might find the Centrelink system confusing and overwhelming can have help in taking up their rights.
