Our ability to meet our commitment to quality legal services and the professional development of lawyers was recently enhanced with the appointment of our Director Legal Practice Meagan Keogh as Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria’s Specialist Accreditation Board.

Meagan said specialist accreditation delivered positives for lawyers, clients and the legal system.

‘Lawyers are able to dive deep into the technical elements of their chosen area of practice and improve their expertise. Clients can be assured that their lawyer is keeping pace with developments in their specialist area of law which should improve how they experience the system, and the legal system benefits from improved quality of representation and assistance to the court.’

Meagan said she also welcomed the opportunity the new role would bring in delivering benefits to Victoria Legal Aid.

‘Being Chair of the Specialist Accreditation Board exposes me to best practice in a wide variety of practice areas, including some in which Victoria Legal Aid does not practice.

‘Conversely, I can help keep the distinct legal aid perspective in the forefront of the minds of my peers on the Board, many of whom have never acted for vulnerable and disadvantaged clients, and do not have an understanding of the unique aspects of legal aid practice.

‘I look forward to the opportunities to listen and learn from others in my new role.’
