New specialist Youth Crime advocate roles

New specialist Youth Crime advocate roles

Tuesday, 10 July 2018

We are pleased to announce that four new senior advocates have been recruited. These specialist Youth Crime roles will help advance the unique rights of children in the criminal justice system and respond to recent youth justice reforms.

The new advocates will provide expert youth crime services across our in-house practice as well as strategic litigation and other professional support for private practitioners in regional areas.

The advocates will act in Children’s Court criminal division matters across the regions of Geelong, Ballarat, Horsham, Bendigo, Shepparton and Gippsland.

We have been fortunate to attract four talented lawyers:

  • Camille Woodward will cover the Geelong region – bringing decades of service experience in the Victoria Legal Aid Chambers and various other roles across the organisation
  • Danielle Svede has been appointed to cover Gippsland – her experience in our Youth Crime team, the Warrnambool and Morwell offices will be a great asset in this regional role
  • Clare Wilkin will cover Bendigo and outreach to Shepparton – bringing a wealth of experience in youth legal education, vast local knowledge and existing stakeholder relationships
  • Samantha Brown, an external appointment with years of advocacy experience at Victoria Aboriginal Legal Services and most recently at the Coroner’s Court, will outreach to Horsham. A Ballarat local, Sam will be a fantastic fit for those regional offices and will advance the work of the statewide Youth Crime program.
