Panels Project update – new panels opening soon

Wednesday, 20 November 2013

Victoria Legal Aid is preparing to open the Summary Crime Panel, the Child Protection Panel and the newly established Family Violence Panel early in 2014.

Consultation with private practitioners and legal practitioners within the community legal centre sector about the proposed entry requirements for these panels is currently underway.

On 29 October we had the first round of consultation on the Summary Crime Panel and Family Violence Panel, by means of focus group discussion. The requirements have been revised to integrate feedback provided and will be put to key stakeholders, including the Law Institute of Victoria and the Federation of Community Legal Centres, for final consultation.

A focus group discussion on the proposed entry requirements for the Child Protection Panel is expected to take place in December 2013.

Preparation for opening these new panels follows the successful opening of the Independent Children's Lawyer Panel and the Indictable Crime Panel in July and August this year.

Firms and practitioners interested in applying for the Indictable Crime Panel are reminded of the 30 November 2013 deadline. More information and other relevant timelines can be found at Opening of the Indictable Crime Panel.
