Section 29A panels training

Youth crime training

The next Youth Crime Foundation Workshop will be held late 2019.

Practitioners who are intending to apply for Panel Certifier status on the Youth Crime Subset of the section 29A Indictable Crime Panel and Summary Crime Panel must complete a Victoria Legal Aid Youth Crim Foundation Workshop. This covers:

  • alternatives to proceeding in court
  • criminal procedure specific to children
  • sentencing and other legal principles specific to children
  • family division (child protection and intervention order) procedure specific to youth crime clients
  • interviewing children
  • ethical issues specific to children.

This training is one of the entry requirements for the Indictable Crime and Summary Crime Youth Crime Subset for those practitioners who are not already Law Institute of Victoria accredited specialists in children's law.

This professional development training is designed specifically for youth crime practitioners and is delivered by the Victoria Legal Aid Criminal Law Program’s Youth Crime team and other relevant lawyers. It involves:
