The Law Institute of Victoria is offering specialist accreditation in the areas of criminal law and children’s law in 2024.

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) supports lawyers who assist legally aided clients to become accredited specialists.

We provide a practical study support program to help lawyers prepare themselves for the specialisation examinations. Supports include facilitated study groups, professional legal education lectures and access to resources.

The support program is offered to community legal centre lawyers and private practitioners who are on or applying to be on our criminal law, youth crime or child protection panels.

34 criminal law and 9 children’s law candidates who participated in our study support programs successfully obtained specialist accreditation in 2022.

Our specialisation study support programs commence in early 2024. To ensure you don’t miss out, please register your interest by emailing:

To find out if you are eligible to become an accredited specialist and learn about the assessment process, visit Accredited Specialisation or attend the Law Institute of Victoria's Prospective Accredited Specialist Networking Evening on Monday 4 December.
