Independent Mental Health Advocacy – Know your rights card

""

Published 1 May 2026

About this resource

This free card is for people who are receiving compulsory treatment or feel at risk of compulsory treatment. It folds into a small card that you can keep with you.

This card can help you know your rights and have your say. You can show it while getting treatment if you want support to speak up for what you want.

This card has information on:

  • your rights under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
  • our Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) service, how an advocate can support you and how to contact us
  • other organisations that can help.

It also has space for you to write down your supports.

This card was developed by Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA). IMHA is an organisation that provides independent, free and confidential support to people receiving, or at risk of receiving, compulsory mental health treatment.
