The Governor-in-Council has confirmed the appointment of current non-executive director Llewellyn Prain as the next chairperson of our Board.

Llewellyn will take up the role when Bill Jaboor finishes his term on 1 March after more than eight years as chairperson.

‘Llewellyn’s appointment is terrific news for the Board and Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) and is testament to the contribution she’s already made as a non-executive director,’ said CEO Toby Hemming.

During her time on the Board to date Llewellyn has consistently demonstrated significant care for our clients and staff. She has also been a champion for inclusion and accessibility at all levels of our organisation.’

Llewellyn was first appointed to the Board in July 2024.

Proudly vision impaired, she is the first woman to be appointed as chairperson on a non-acting basis.

‘VLA has already benefited from Llewellyn’s fine attention to detail and significant expertise in public policy and corporate governance,’ said Toby.

‘I look forward to continuing to work with her and the Board in 2026.’
