The Quality Assurance team supports Victoria Legal Aid in providing high quality legal services. Quality assurance reviews are conducted throughout the year to support our panel practitioners to provide high quality legal services and to ensure that a minimum quality standard is being met.
To improve our processes, we are changing the way we communicate the results of our quality assurance reviews so that our panel members can better understand the outcome of a review and to encourage improvements where a need is identified. The Quality Assurance team employs a graduated assessment of practitioner files to determine the appropriate outcome following the file review.
The previous graduated audit outcome categories have been replaced by five new ones that better reflect the outcome of a quality assurance review. The updated categories are:
Previous outcomes | New outcomes | Action(s) |
---|---|---|
Good practice | Good practice | Nil or Compliment in recognition for high quality standard. |
Good practice and education | Improvements required | We will issue recommendation(s) and may include required improvements and education/training. |
Education |
Significant improvements required |
We will issue recommendation(s) and will include required improvements and education/training. |
Quality improvement plan | Significant quality deficits |
Issue quality improvement plan. Schedule follow-up quality assurance review. |
Referral to Director Legal Practice | Serious misconduct | Referral to Director Legal Practice. |
What do I need to do?
You do not have to take any action for these changes. The updated gradated audit outcome categories will be applied to all quality assurance reviews in the next cycle of reviews for family law.
