Welcome to our new evidence e-learning program

Panel practitioners and community legal centres are invited to complete our new evidence e-learning program to strengthen their knowledge of evidence law.

We recently launched our new law of evidence e-learning program. Primarily designed for criminal law practitioners, practitioners in other practice areas may also find it useful.

The program comprises nine modules focusing on key sections of the Evidence Act 2008, and includes case summaries to guide the learner. The modules were written by criminal law public defenders in Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) Chambers and produced by our Professional Legal Education staff.

Chief Counsel VLA Chambers Julia Munster is pleased with the new resource and grateful to those who helped deliver it.

‘I’d particularly like to thank Senior Public Defender Naomi Smith and Legal Learning and Development Adviser Bec Mason for their work on the program.

‘The modules are intended to complement other resources and do not cover the field of evidence law. They are a useful resource for practitioners to brush up on a particular area of evidence law, access content to meet their needs and learn at a time that suits them. The modules will be reviewed and updated as resources permit.’

Director of Legal Practice Sonia Law also believes the eLearning program will provide strong support to panel practitioners who undertake the majority of legally aided work in Victoria.

‘These modules are a great addition to the learning resources we already make available to our practice partners.

‘We encourage our panel practitioners and our partners in community legal centres (CLC) to engage with the evidence e-learning program and the other education and training available to them via our Professional Legal Education program.’

The program is accessible via our Learning Hub for internal lawyers and the Law Hub for panel practitioners and CLC practice partners. Continuing professional development points are available upon completion of the modules.

You can provide feedback about the modules via the evaluation survey at the end of each module or by contacting the Professional Learning and Education (PLE) team at ple@vla.vic.gov.au

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the professional growth of our staff and partners through accessible and flexible professional learning offerings.
