Bill Jaboor has finished his term as Chair of our Board after more than eight years of service.
When he joined us in 2017, Bill brought decades of experience as a distinguished public servant, including as CEO of local governments around Victoria.
He has guided us through a period of significant growth and change.
This included the expansion of legal aid services across the state, major digital transformations, and the delivery of critical support to clients during pandemic lockdowns.
Bill's leadership brought a sharper strategic focus on outcomes for our clients and community. He improved our Board governance arrangements and led advocacy efforts with government decision makers for better funding for the legal assistance sector.
His background in local communities has meant his leadership has been grounded in deep understanding and an empathy with the people and places we serve.
‘Bill has a steadfast commitment to fairness and to improving access to justice for Victorians,’ said our CEO Toby Hemming.
‘He has been a fierce advocate for our clients’ best interests and a passionate supporter of a properly funded legal assistance sector.
‘Bill has encouraged our staff, worked productively with our leadership team, and developed very strong relationships with all our stakeholders.
‘Ultimately, Bill has helped set us up for the future, which is an incredible legacy.
‘We sincerely thank Bill for his service and wish him the best.’
Our new Chair, Llewellyn Prain, stepped into the role on 1 March after serving as a non-executive director on the Board since July 2024.
Llewellyn brings significant corporate governance and policy expertise, along with a deep commitment to inclusion and accessibility. She has a vision impairment and is the first woman to be appointed as Chair of our Board in a non-acting capacity.
We look forward to this new chapter for our organisation under Llewellyn’s leadership.
