What we do

We help Victorians with legal information, advice and education. We represent people in court, help families resolve disputes, and provide extra support for people who need it most.

Victoria Legal Aid helps people with their legal issues. We provide legal information, advice and education to help people prevent legal problems and resolve them early.

We focus our most intensive services on Victorians who need them most. These services include:

  • representing people in court
  • helping families resolve disputes
  • supporting people through non-legal advocacy.

We use eligibility guidelines to make sure our help is fair. These are based on your:

  • financial situation
  • the type and seriousness of your legal problem
  • individual circumstances.

We also run court cases to improve laws, policies and processes. This helps fix legal problems for individuals and the wider Victorian community.
