Employment strategy

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Strategy 2020–25 reflects our genuine commitment to the principles of reconciliation and self-determination under our Reconciliation Action Plan 2023–25. The strategy commits us to significantly increasing the proportion of First Nations staff in our workforce.

Career pathways

Clerkship program

Our First Nations clerkship program is open to current law students. We offer multiple clerkship positions throughout the year.

Graduate law program

Our First Nations graduate law program invites applications from graduates who have completed their LLB (or equivalent) and are eligible to enrol in a practical legal training course.

Aboriginal community engagement officers

Our Aboriginal community engagement officers are vital for building a workplace that is culturally safe for First Nations people. It is a non-legal role that provides a connection between First Nations communities and our services.

New Lawyers Program

The New Lawyers Program is open to first-year post-admission lawyers. Up to 12 positions are available, including two positions reserved for First Nations applicants.

The First Nations Services directorate works to facilitate our organisation's commitment to improving access to justice for First Nations communities across Victoria.
